TRPS 2016… Rock Poster show in Golden Gate Park this weekend.
TRPS (The Rock Poster Society) is throwing their big annual “Festival of Rock Posters” event, this year at the Hall of Flowers / SF County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park. This year has probably one of the best lineups I have seen of artists old-school & new including legends Jim Pollock & Mark Arminiski who are coming from the East Coast. I will be in the mix showcasing some new & rare posters. This one is not to be missed.
The show is from 10am – 6pm and is FREE to the public…

Van Morrison 2-nights at the SFJazz Center poster….
Van Morrison is a legend & cultural icon so it was such a real honor to get the nod to do a poster for his 2-night run at the SFJazz Center in San Francisco this week. His songs you know without even realizing you know them, if that makes sense. “Gloria”… “Moondance” …”Brown Eyed Girl”…. “Wild Night Is Calling”…. “Have I Told You Lately I Love You”,.. all classics.
I knew I couldn’t go for my usual trippy-dippy psychedelic design style due to the audience this was for and needed something that felt more classic. Though SF does not have the most robust Autumn colors, I wanted to represent Fall as well as the uniqueness of the venue, the SFJazz Center. My initial concept had the silhouette of Morrison’s in his iconic hat & coat walking the streets of SF but it felt too busy and scrapped it for the simple guitar with shamrock vines design. I also know Van Morrison is a multi-talented musician utilizing a number of instruments during his shows (sax, guitar, piano, harmonica, etc..) and I thought the mix of a few would fit nicely.
The final print is a 5-color (18′ x 24) printed by Monolith Press and I will have a small run of 50 Artist Edition Prints (signed/Numbered) available on Friday, October 21st @ 11AM (PST) along w/ 20 foil variants.
UPDATE – Due to DDoS hack… BigCartel / Paypal servers were temporarily down. They are back up now.
Ween is back in San Francisco. New poster.
Ween is my favorite band of all time. I’ve been obsessed with them since early high school and have been lucky to work with over the years on a couple projects and was deeply saddened when they broke up. Almost 10 years ago to the date I did my first screenprinted poster for them for a San Francisco show (The Independent – 2006′). The boys are back on tour and as with a lot of things in life, things come back around. On the 10th Anniversary of Scraped Knee I had the privilege to do a poster for their 2 days of shows this week in SF.
The print is a promoter print commissioned by folks at APE/Bill Graham and given to the band, and folks back stage & involved with the show.
I wanted to try and do something for true-Ween fans, cramming as many references into the print as I could without it getting ridiculous. Most of the newer prints focus on “The Boognish” which is cool but I wanted this to stand out. I’d be interested to see if people can get all the subtle & not so subtle nods to the bands imagery, lyrics, album art, etc.
The final print is a 6-color (18′ x 24) printed by the badasses at Monolith Press and I will have a small run of 40 Artist Prints (signed/AP) available on Tues, October 18th @ 11AM (PST).
