Neil Young at the Berkeley Greek Theatre…. Harvest!!!!
Doing a poster for a Neil Young show has been on my bucket list for a long time. The guy has been making kickass music for 40+ years and I feel was a soundtrack for a lot of moments in my life. He is currently on tour w/ Promise of the Real, the band fronted by Willie Nelson’s sons, who I had never heard of but killed it live. Honestly it is a tour you should definitely go out and see.
Neil Young has such a long rich history to pull imagery from it was great to revisit some of the old albums. Obviously Native American imagery of feathers, and buffalo come to mind but as the show was taking place during the heart of Autumn I thought the whole Fall/Harvest theme would work well. Plus the Monsanto angle tied in perfectly. Originally I wanted to do a kind of scarecrow troubadour but settled on the Harvest horn as it just seemed more of a classic image. I worked in some “Greek” columns and drew til’ my hand was sore.
It is a 5-color print.. nice Fall colors,.. golds, auburns, etc… is 18’x24′ and I will have a small run of signed Artist Prints for sale on October 22 (Thrs) @ 11AM (PST). The printing was done by super talented guys at Monolith Press and there are a few B&W copies available to those and only those who are interested in participating in THE COLORING NOOK (please see rules on how to participate).
ONLY REQUEST A B&W IF YOUR CHILD PLANS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COLORING NOOK BY COLORING & SEND A PHOTO. I’m getting too many collectors and eBay flippers.
Magic Number collaboration beer… DC Brau / Union Craft Brewing / Stillwater Artisnal
I love me some beer and the boys at DC Brau in DC make some good beer. I got the call to help create some art for a new 3-brewery (DC Brau / Stillwater Artisanal / Union Craft Brewing) collaboration beer called “MAGIC NUMBER – IPL” which will be available around the DC/Baltimore are this week for Baltimore Beer Week.
The beer is an India Pale Lager (6% ABV) and is a mix of 3 different hops (Simcoe, Amarillo & Citra). The brewers description is as follows:
“Magic Number” has a light, quenching body and a touch of flaked oats for a light, creamy mouthfeel. By using a lager yeast we’re able to keep the yeast character clean and restrained by means of a cooler fermentation temperature which lets the gentle malt character and the ridiculously juicy hop character be the only point of focus. Floral, citrus, grapefruit, passionfruit, earth, pine and melon.
3 Brewers, 3 Hops… 1 kickass beer. Hopefully I will get a taste soon.
