“Cloud City” Hazy IPA label for Gigantic Brewing

I always love working with new breweries and was psyched to get the call from Gigantic Brewing Co. in Portland, OR to do a label for their new beer Cloud City. I have been a fan of their Artist series of labels for a while and stoked to be a part of it.

The direction for the concept was pretty loose and I definitely didn’t want to do anything too literal. I took some influence from the Chachapoyas (“Warriors of the Clouds”) who I was recently turned on to. They are a mysterious & newly discovered tribe of folks who had cities up in the cloud forest in the remote Andes mountains.

The beer is a Hazy IPA brewed with Galaxy, Citra and Crystal hops. Cloud City will be available at the brewery starting tomorrow, May 22nd.

String Cheese Incident Atlanta poster… 420 Fest weekend.

The String Cheese Incident hit up Atlanta this past week to headline a night at the Sweetwater 420 Fest. I was lucky to be able to do the poster for the whole Festival and as I have worked with the band a ton in the past it only made sense to work with them on a special print for their Pre-party show at the Variety Playhouse the night before.

Initially I believe the show was a bit of a secret or at least exclusive, so the early concepts played on this fact using secret keyholes and mysterious weirdo characters trying to entice you to partake in the crazy event. For the dude I was influenced by R. Crumb & Gilbert Shelton and wanted him to have a kind of “Fabulous Furry Freak Bros” vibe. We even toyed with doing a print that directly tied w/ the 420 Fest print concept and making another airship that would be in the same airspace but figured it was too repetitive.

In the end the band decided to include the weekend dates of the 420 Fest as well so we adapted the idea a bit to feature the Centennial Olympic Park skyline and included some of the trippy airships as silhouettes in the sky.

The print had a 325 print and was skillfully printed by the badass folks at Good Thoughts. I will have a small Artist Edition (signed/AP) run of 25 available on April 27th @11am (PST).

As is pretty usual with SCI prints, there are No Variants… but this one was printed on a really, really nice Gold metallic paper and looks gorgeous. No variants needed.

Sweetwater 420 Fest poster 2018

Wow, what a weekend. The Sweetwater 420 Fest came and went and I had the privilege of doing the artwork for the event and I was able to go to Atlanta hang out at the brewery with folks and be a part of the festivities. I also ended up doing a print for a special pre-party show with The String Cheese Incident in the ATL which meant I had to sign about 1200+ posters.

Much like my last gig with Sweetwater Brewery, the art direction with the only stipulation being they wanted to work their signature trout into the mix somehow. I thought a kind of airship parade over the skyline of Atlanta would be a pretty sweet and colorful idea to work with which also gave me the opportunity to try and incorporate a couple nods to some of the bands (exp. String Cheese Incident jellyfish) or other recognizable imagery as balloons or ships in the sky. It initially started out very different w/ the trout simply being a random ship in the background and a Turtle being the focus but in the end it did make as much sense.

The poster has a total print run of 800 (signed/numbered) which were available at the Festival & I will have about 25 Artist copies (Signed/Numbered) available on Wed., April 25th @ 11am (PST). Along with the regular edtion I printed up a very small run of Foil variants… including 25 Rainbow Foil & 10 super trippy Firework Foil (seen above).
